LIMESTONE

For centuries, Limestone has been one of the primary construction materials used throughout the world. It has transitioned from ancient times into contemporary architecture with remarkable grace and style. While some limestone is quite soft, others are very hard and are suitable for the most demanding application.

What is limestone? Limestone is formed as calcite and other sediment, eroded from higher elevations, settle and are compressed in ancient sea beds. On the geological time scale, most limestone dates from the Jurassic period, approximately 165 million years ago. In limestone is found the fossilized, organic remains of sea animals such as mollusks, corals and spiny sea invertebrates. Whole, fossilized shells and larger sea creatures are often visible, giving limestone a unique and desirable appeal.
